At this section we look at all overland total crosses on planet earth between 993 AD and 2040 AD. By overland, I mean the general apex of the cross is either overland, or very near land. this section contains maps and descriptions of all 67 or so Total eclipse crosses that have occurred on earth since 1000 AD.
The intent of the survey is to determine how unusual our current set of overland crosses are., and also to determine if there is apparent significance to overland total eclipse crosses in general.
The current set of overland crosses ( pictured at top of page) belong to the Hepton cycle. The Hepton Cycle is composed of 7 different total eclipses spaced at 1211 day ( 7 eclipse season) and 2422 day ( 7 eclipse year) intervals. They typically occur on the same day of the week.
Our current set of Hepton eclipses occur on Monday.
Within that cycle, we have three overland crosses occurring within 20 years. Being members of the same cycle, these crosses are spaced apart in regular mathematical intervals.
2422 days between the USA eclipse Cross ( with 2020 eclipse at 1211 day midpoint.)
Then there is 1211 days until the next cross, the Mideast Cross, which occur 2422 days apart( with a 2030 eclipse midpoint),
then 1211 days until the Australian Cross, which is also 2422 days apart but includes the 2030 eclipse.
2422 days is 7 eclipse years. 1211 days is seven eclipse seasons.
All seven of these eclipses happen on Mondays. All of them are looked at in detail elsewhere.

2017 Aug 21 USA Divided (Saros 145). No other nation touched.
2020 Dec 14 Electoral College Eclipse (Saros 142) At exact midpoint of 2017 and 2024 USA totals, eclipse in South America while the new President and Vice-president are being elected by the Electoral College in Washington, DC.
2024 Apr 8 North America Divided (Saros 139) South to North across Mexico, USA and Canada. First overland path across all three nations since their founding.
2027 Aug 2 Valley of the Kings/ Mecca (Saros 136) At 6 minutes and 23 seconds, the longest total eclipse until the 22nd Century. Rock of Gibraltar, Tripoli, Libya, and Egypt’s Valley of the Kings. Features total eclipse in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
2030 Nov 25 Ghost of British Empire (Saros 133) South Africa to Australia. Ending at sunset over Botany Bay and Sydney.
2034 Mar 20 Spring Equinox Hepton Cross (Saros 130) Creates 7 eclipse year cross with 2027 Valley of the Kings. New Year's Day in many other cultures.
2037 Jul 13 Australia and New Zealand (Saros 127) Forms third and last Hepton Cross of cycle in conjunction with 11-25-2030 eclipse, apex in remote southwest New South Wales.
The two balanced sets of crosses occur essentially ten years apart from each other. (3633 days- actually ten years minus 19 days). The first US eclipse is 2017 and the first Mideast eclipse is 2027. The second US eclipse is 2024 and the second Mideast eclipse is 2034.
Now, does this sort of thing happen all the time?
As we are about to see, not only does it not happen all the time, a pattern this profound has never happened in the last thousand years. What's also incredible is that there have been some pretty profound patterns.
Never before have two Hepton Total Eclipse Crosses followed on each other’s heels in such a dramatic way within the same cycle, much less three eclipses, as what occurs with this cycle.
There were less than 70 total overland eclipse crosses that occurred within 8 years of each other during the last thousand years. It’s possible I missed a few of them. But I think I got nearly all of them. Many more occurred with apexes over open ocean.
I limit the definition of cross to intersecting paths less than eight years apart ( An octon is 7 years 7 months 7 days and is the largest of the smaller cycles). If one extends time frames far enough you could obviously find lots of other crosses. But the patterns seem to insist on this definition.
There are also many crosses which include ring of fires and hybrid eclipses, but I am limiting the scope of this study to ONLY total eclipses, which are the maximum expression of the solar eclipse phenomenon. ( i make a few exceptions in the 20th Century).
Total Eclipse paths that cross within less than ten years of each other are rare enough that the area which became the contiguous USA has seen only 3 overland total crosses in the last thousand years. All of them were unbalanced and the last happened in 1451, more than 570 years ago.
Facts about the Crosses.
I only include Total Crosses.
I found 67 total eclipse crosses of any kind since 993 AD. They are mapped here in 69 maps. The maps include a few peculiar conjunctions, especially of interest is the 1900/1905 Egypt Spain conjunction.
Some maps have two or even three cross apexes as the phenomenon of crosses occasionally arrives as a cluster. This happened a handful of times in the last millennium. One of these clusters comes up in Australia between 2028 and 2038, and that turns out to be the greatest example in history.
Breakdown of Historical Crosses
Total Crosses of the last thousand years are created exclusively by seven intervals.

The most common intervals by far are the Hepton 2422 day cycle and the 856-day crosses. The 856 day cross cycle remains scientifically unnamed as far as I can tell.
Hepton Crosses. Again, Hepton crosses occur 2422 days or 1211 days apart, on the same day of the week. The 2422 day variety are the crosses appearing over the USA, Mideast and Australia.
2422 days is 7 eclipse years (7x 346.62 days plus a few days interval)
I found thirty-four 2422-day overland Hepton Crosses in 1044 years.
There were also three 1211-day Hepton eclipse Crosses since 1044.
856 Day Crosses. These are the next most common source of eclipse crosses. There are twenty-three 856-Day Crosses in 1044 years.
Octon Crosses. The Octon crosses in the survey occur at 2776 days apart, or 8 eclipse years, which is 7 years 7 months and 7 days. There are three Octon Crosses in 1044 years.
531 Day Crosses. 531 days is one lunar year plus essentially one eclipse season (a “semester” of 177 days). There are three 531-day crosses found, all of them since 1860.
7 year plus 42 day Crosses. There are 2 of these.
1920 Day Crosses: 5 years three months and 2 days.. There are two of these eclipse crosses.
1040 Day or Hexon Cycle: There is one Hexon Cross eclipse in the 1000 year survey.
Geographical Info and Oddities: Eclipse Crosses since 993 AD.
I divide the world into 7 geographical areas.
Mideast: I use term Mideast to include areas vital to the Biblical narrative. Modern Egypt, Arabian Peninsula, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Libya, Israel, Jordan, Syria. I also include Algeria.
North America: all land north of the Panama Isthmus
South America: south of isthmus
Africa: All nations of African continent except those on the Mediterranean
Europe: All land of Eurasia west of Ural Mountains besides what I term the Mideast area. There is therefore a Russia/Europe and a Russia/Asia.
Asia: All of Eurasia outside of Europe and Mideast, including South Asia and large Island chains like Indonesia, Melanesia and Philippines.
Australia: essentially Australian continent and New Zealand.
Mideast Total Crosses:
8 crosses and one special conjunction . It sees no crosses in the 774 years between 1086 and 1860 (note number oddity).
Arabia-two crosses overlap southern Arabia: one along Persian Gulf side and one along Red Sea at the beginning of the second millennium (993 AD to 1007 AD).
Iran- Iran (Persia) has two crosses 893 years apart in the almost exact same spot in the Caucasus Mountains, near city of Shahrud.
Algeria- one
Libya-one
Turkey-one-Turkish Tav of 1999 and 2006
Egypt- one cross, the 2027/2034 Cross with apex in Egypt and Red Sea.
Egypt ( Special Conjunction):The special conjunction occurs in the eclipses of 1900 and 1905, where two total eclipses overlap along the southern Mediterranean coast before diving into Egypt.
South America Eclipse Crosses:
South America has seen 6 crosses since 993 AD.
Peru: two crosses.
Brazil: two crosses.
Colombia and Argentina each see one total cross.
North America Eclipse Crosses:
North America has 11 crosses between 993 AD and 2024.
The area which becomes the contiguous USA sees none from 1451 to 2024, or 573 years.
Alaska is exempted from US consideration because of geographic isolation.
USA: Four Crosses (1104, 1449 ,1451 and 2024)
Canada: Four crosses (the last in 1972 over Nova Scotia)
Mexico: one cross
Alaska: one cross
Canada/Alaska border: two crosses, same cluster.
Australia: Australia has had only one total eclipse cross in the last millennium , in 1610.
It sees three total crosses in 10 years beginning in 2028.
Africa:
9 crosses in the African nations south of the Mediterranean coast.
Mali: two crosses, including one with apex at Timbuktu.
Congo: two crosses
Sudan, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique and Angola each see one cross.
Asia: 20 total eclipse crosses since 993 AD.
Russia/ Asia: 5 crosses
China: 5 crosses
Russia/China Border: 2 crosses
Mongolia: 3 crosses
Kazakhstan: 2 crosses
Japan: one cross
Vietnam/Cambodia: one cross (1955)
New Guinea: one cross
Europe: Europe has 14 crosses from 993 AD to the present, the last concluding in 1914.
Russia/European: 4 crosses, including three in same cluster from 1706 to 1715.
Spain: 3 crosses plus special 1900 conjunction.
Britain: 2 crosses.
Austria/Poland: 2 crosses from same cluster
Denmark, Sweden and Serbia all saw one cross.
Only 32 modern nations had a total eclipse cross in their modern borders the last thousand years. There are 195 nations currently recognized on earth.
Most Crosses?
Russia had all or part of 11 Crosses.
China all or part of 7. Canada and USA have 4. Mongolia and Spain each saw 3.
Big nations that saw no eclipse crosses include India (7th largest nation in the world), Indonesia, Germany, Venezuela, Pakistan, much of Africa, and all of central America outside of Mexico.
Australia, the 6th largest country on earth, saw only one total cross in a thousand years. The USA didn’t have one for almost 600 years between 1451 and 2024.
In contrast, Spain, the 52nd largest country in the world, saw 3 eclipse crosses, a great conjunction, and an extraordinary modern swarm which commences in 2026.
The cross phenomenon is rare. The appearance of the balanced Hepton Crosses we are experiencing is one-of- kind in the last millennium. Here they are.

It connects both North and South America as well as Europe and Middle east, including Luxor Egypt just before Spain travels to the Americas with Columbus seven years after the cross is completed.

The second line of the cross on 1865 Apr 25 occurs ten days after the death of Abraham Lincoln, the man most singly responsible for creating the momentum for the end of human slavery in the western hemisphere.
That 1865 eclipse goes directly over Rio on its way to Angola, the source of the first slaves to arrive in North America. Lincoln was shot April 14 1865 and died the next morning.
Slavery would finally be outlawed in Brazil May 13 1888, the last nation in the western hemisphere to abolish it.

Not really a cross, but an extraordinary intersection of two total eclipses from North America to Spain to Egypt to Mecca unlike anything else in the millennium. The 1900 May 28 eclipse was the first of the 20th century and is discussed in detail elsewhere. It occurred 17 years and one day before the birth of JFK, and featured totality in New Orleans and Charleston before traveling on to Spain and Egypt.
The 1905 brought totality to the Valley of the Kings in Luxor Egypt and the holy city of Mecca, just as the 2027 eclipse will.
For two thousand miles, the eclipse paths overlap each other, apparently unprecedented in the last thousand years for an overland eclipse, and it occurs along some of the most important areas in all human civilization.
A Nov 11 1901 Ring of Fire also intersected these two in Egypt.

The 1900 eclipse is exactly 17 years and one day before the birth of John F. Kennedy. Kennedy and his wife Jackie helped bring the Egyptian Temple of Dendur to the United States to be reassembled in New York City. It had been scheduled to be submerged by the Aswan Dam. The next eclipse on Earth after this one occurs on Nov 22 1900, 63 years to the day before JFK's murder. The 1900 Eclipse also crosses American power spot New Orleans (latitudinally aligned with Pyramids of Giza) and bisects Spain.

Path bisects Egypt just north of the 5-28-1900 eclipse 177 days before, and brings complete annularity to the Pyramids of Giza, Alexandria and both possible Mount Sinai locations. Then it divides Saudi Arabia before encountering India, Vietnam, Cambodia.
Volcano allusions: Eclipse ends at sunset over Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines, site of one of the greatest volcanic explosions of the 20thCentury. The next eclipse on earth, May 18 1901, occurs 79 years to the day before another great volcano, Mount Saint Helens.
Eclipse occurs on 11-11-01. Maximum duration of eclipse according to NASA was 11 minutes and 01 seconds. Saros 141 has two 1's in it for good measure. Exactly 17 years before the end of World War One, which happened at 11:11 am on 11-11-1918, which becomes known as Armistice day.
Saros 141 has an extraordinarily history. Farewell Abraham eclipse of 1865, California Sunset 1992, the longest ring of fire in 1,000 years over Southeast Asia in 1955.

A great solar eclipse marking the most famous man-made disaster of all times, the legendary sinking of the Titanic, the largest ship ever launched, the symbol of modern technology, the “unsinkable". She was sent to a watery grave on her maiden voyage along with more than 1,500 people. Path goes just south of Southampton, England (90% coverage) where Titanic launched a week before. 35% coverage at the site of the disaster in Atlantic southeast of Newfoundland. 18% coverage at intended harbor of New York. Path cuts a foreboding shadow across Europe two years before World War One. Stripe of Totality divides metropolitan Paris. The May 9 1948 eclipse was the strongest non-total ring of fire of all time, featuring, get this, 99.999% totality. It split Korea in half two years before the war between North and South Korea.
The 1955 June 20 total eclipse was the longest solar eclipse of the millennium, at 7 minutes, 7 seconds. It crossed Vietnam and Cambodia the very year that the Vietnam War officially starts.
Intersection of these eclipses occurs on the Vietnam/Cambodia borders, between Phnom Penh and Saigon ( now Ho Chi Minh City).
This eclipse, like the WWI Cross, defies all mutters of coincidence. It turns out the next one does too.

Carly Simon had a huge hit with “You’re so Vain”, which spent three weeks at number 1. It includes the lyric: ”You flew your Learjet up to Nova Scotia to see a Total Eclipse of the Sun”.
The 1970 eclipse was the last total to touch the eastern US eastern for 47 years. It was in Hepton Cross relation with the 1963 US eclipse four months before JFK association, but the apex was a few hundred miles out to sea.

In the space of 7 eclipse years (2422 days) two clusters occur over Africa. One (between 1973 and 1976 over the course of 1033 days) has an epicenter on the western edge of the nation of Mauritania, near capital of Nouakchott. The other (between 1976 and 1980 over 846 days) has an epicenter near the capital of Tanzania, Dar Es Salaam.
The 6-30-1973 and 2-16-1980 solar eclipses (Saros 136 and 130) are a matching Hepton Pair exactly seven eclipse years apart, both occurring on Saturday. Together they bookend the larger cluster. These two eclipses also cross each other, in the Indian Ocean several hundred miles east of Kenya.

143 days before the 21st Century begins, an extraordinary path of totality ends the 20th Century and the Second Millennium on the unusual numeric of 8-11-1999. One of the most watched eclipses of all time, it crossed densely populated areas across Europe, the Mideast and South Asia.
USA: This 1999 path of totality begins at sunrise a few hundred miles from the East Coast of USA (26% totality in New York City, 62% in Boston, 72% in Kennebunkport, Maine). Eclipse is 26 days after death of John F. Kennedy Jr. and wife Carolyn in plane crash off Martha's Vineyard (60% totality) which happened on July 16 1999 (exactly 54 years after test of first A-Bomb).
Eclipse is exactly 84 eclipse years from the 11-22-1919 JFK Premonition USA Eclipse and exactly 16 eclipse years from DC Ring of Fire May 30 1984. Exactly 57 eclipse years (a full eclipse triple Metonic) from 1945's A- Bomb Eclipse.
Occurs 11 months after founding of Google, a few months before founding of Gates Foundation, two months after George W. Bush announced candidacy for White House, four months from Y2K hysteria and the changing of the millennium.

Germany: The first total eclipse in Germany since Aug 19 1887 Berlin Sunrise Eclipse 19 months before Hitler was born. The eclipse path across southern Germany and the province of Bavaria. Totality in the town of Branau Aum Inn (Austria) where Adolf Hitler was born 110 years before on 4-20-1889. Totality in Munich, Germany, where he began his rise to power. 66 years after the Nazis seized power in 1933.
Austria: Mozart's birthplace of Salzburg; also Hungary, and Romania--including totality in Bucharest.
Turkey: The eclipse bisects Turkey. Six days later on Aug 17, the worst earthquake in modern Turkish history devastates the city of Izmit (96% coverage) and surrounding region, killing 20,000. Major damage in capital of Istanbul. (95 %). One of the most dramatic examples of eclipse/disaster associations in our survey. The epicenter of quake was less than 45 miles from path of totality.
Iraq: The eclipse passes over Mosul, Iraq and the ruins of the ancient city of Nineveh. Four years later, US troops invade Iraq.
Nineveh: mentioned many times in the Bible, Nineveh, the great capital of Assyria, was where the Prophet Jonah showed up after being spit out by the whale. It was the place he had been told by God to warn of God's impending judgment. There was a total solar eclipse in Ninevah on 762 BC Jun 15. Iran: The eclipse cuts the Persian nation in half. Its second total eclipse in four years. Totality over the great city of Isfahan.

India: Eclipse crosses the entire nation of India, exiting in totality with centerline at Srikakulum, a sacred city for both Hindus and Buddhist and site of Buddhist Heritage site Salindaham, the location of the Arasavalli Sun Temple --the (“abode of the Sun god”)-one of two major sun temples in India.

If the traditional date of 1 BC is accepted for the birth of Jesus Christ, then this eclipse, one of the greatest eclipses of all time, fell on the 2,000th solar year anniversary of that event. The eclipse also occurs one day after the Aug 10 Temple Destruction Metonic. (Temple destroyed on 8-10-70 AD)

2006 Mar 29 Second Line of Great Turkish Cross Total (Saros 139) Looked at in depth in Mideast Eclipses, the second line of the Hepton Turkish Cross. A path that creates three intersections. It intersects with the next 2006 eclipse (ring of fire) just east of South America. It crosses the last eclipse (Oct 3 2005) over the doomed nation of Libya (NATO bombing in 2011), then crosses the 8-11-1999 20th Century Judgment eclipse with a total Hepton Cross over the middle of Turkey.
Totality begins directly over city of Natal, Brazil ("Nativity " in Portuguese. Crosses Atlantic to enter Gold Coast of Africa at Acrra, Ghana 39 years almost to the day after Martin Luther King's visit there in March of 1957. In Libya, it intersects the path of the eclipse of Oct 3 2005, which occurred 6 lunar months before. The path of totality goes over the Mediterranean before entering Turkey. 7 and ½ weeks before 500th anniversary of death of Columbus on 5-20-1506).
The two total eclipses of 1999 and 2006 are spaced 2422 days apart. They are Hepton eclipses exactly 7 eclipse years apart both occurring on Wednesday. The intersection of those two great paths is in Northern Turkey about 200 miles east of Ankara in the region of Tokat, an ancient city from the time of the Hitittes, which became a Roman stronghold. It was home to a thriving Armenian Christian community until what happened during WWI. These same Saros eclipses (145 and 139) create the cross over the USA in 2017 and 2024. The 2006 path heads on to bisect Georgia 20 months before its war with Russia then crosses Kazakhstan, including Totality at mysterious Capital of Nur-Sultan, formerly known as Astana. Path of totality ends just after crossing over Kyzyl, the capital of Tuva in Russia. Tuvans are famous for their unusual throat singing.

Cancer is the Crab, or scarab beetle of Egypt which faces Leo in the Zodiac. Crab represents Egypt. Leo is the Lion of Christ. The eclipse of 2027 over Valley of the Kings features the sun and moon directly in constellation of Cancer facing Leo which holds Jupiter, the King Planet.

These two incredible eclipses are considered together for a number of reasons.
Firstly, they stand independent of the eclipses around them. The March 30th eclipse is the first complete eclipse in 325 days, since May of 2032. It is the only complete solar eclipse in 2033- just as the 2015 North Pole eclipse was the only complete solar eclipse in 2015. Both belonged to Saros 120, which performs its last complete eclipse right here after centuries of stunning work.
It is the first total eclipse since 2030 Nov 25.
The 2034 eclipse is the next solar eclipse of any kind on earth and occurs on the Equinox.
These two eclipses are exactly one lunar year apart and occur around the 2,000th anniversary of the traditional dating of the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, Apr 3 33 AD.
As you will see, the details of the March 30th eclipse are extraordinary.
Just as interesting is the aesthetic balance of the two eclipses when placed on a map. The Bering Strait eclipse necessarily must occupy both corners of the map at once, while the Great Civilizations Equinox eclipse is plainly positioned almost perfectly in the center of the world.
Mar 30 2033 Bering Strait 2,000 Anniversary of Christ Total (Saros 120)
4 days before the traditional 2,000th Anniversary of the death of Jesus Christ on April 3 33 AD, a total solar eclipse perfectly crosses the Bering Strait, giving totality to both eastern and western hemispheres at the same time. This is the only place this could possibly happen, with both Russia and the USA having a total eclipse simultaneously. No other nation will experience totality.
Not only does eclipse cover two hemispheres simultaneously, it also straddles the international date line, so it simultaneously occurs on two days at once! The eclipse happens on 3-30 in the USA and 3-31 in Russia. Totality in Russian town of Provideniya ("Providence") and American town of Nome.
Definitely a Numeric oddity in the date of 3-30-2033. It is a completely balanced palindrome number, perhaps the only one in the entire survey. Abbreviation 3-30-33 is also balanced.
This eclipse is peculiar in its separation too. It is 18 months removed from the last total eclipse on earth (11-14-2031) which crossed perfectly the northern and southern hemispheres at the Panama Isthmus. It is one lunar year away from the next complete eclipse, the 2034 Spring Equinox Eclipse.
The only other solar eclipse in 2033 is a partial on 9-23
Mar 20 2034 Spring Equinox Great Civilizations Egypt Cross Total (Saros 130) Discussed in much greater detail elsewhere. The Spring Equinox Eclipse travels from the coast of South America across Africa to Egypt, scraping northen Medina (the last hometown of Mohammad) as it crosses Arabia, onward through Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan (totality in Islamabad), India, Tibet and ending in China.
Jerusalem will see 74% coverage of the sun. Occurs of course on the Spring Equinox, only the ninth Spring Equinox eclipse in the last 2500 years. 19 years after North Pole Spring Equinox eclipse.
It is New Year's Day for Persian, Muslim, Zoroastrian and Bahai Calendars and New Year's Eve for India. It defines the coming of first month of Nisan for Jewish calendar, which begins the next day.
