North Korea invades the South 2 years later on 6-25-1950, sparking the Korean War. Eclipse also divides Vietnam, which was embroiled in war with its colonizer France, and would be officially divided into two nations 6 years later, and be at war, both civil and foreign, until nearly 1980 . One of many 20th century eclipses that bring associations of the Slave Trade, a Ring of Fire eclipse 332 years after first slaves brought to English colonial Jamestown in August 20 1619. Path begins in Virginia with Total Annularity in Jamestown and colonial Williamsburg, crosses Atlantic to the Slave Coast, including Angola, which had been home to the 20 or so Africans brought on the first ship. With a maximum length of annularity duration of 12 minutes and 9.17 seconds, this is the longest solar eclipse in the millennium, also the longest duration in Saros 141, one of the longest eclipse that's known to have ever happened. in an opposite convex path less than 6 months later, another solar eclipse--this time a ring of fire- takes aim at Southeast Asia. The path begins in North Africa, dives just south of Sri lanka and comes ashore incredibly at Bangkok, giving the city its second solar eclipse in less than 6 months--an event with a less than one in 80,000 chance of occurring. It is also Bangkok's 3rd eclipse in 7 years ( less than one in 2 million chance ) Path continues on over Vietnam, bisecting that country again for the third time in 7 years before finishing over Hong Kong and Taiwan. On the 4-19 Hitler birthday Metonic, yet another Ring of Fire eclipse heads straight for Southeast Asia. You will likely not find anything quite so remarkable as this eclipse swarm. Yes, Bangkok is again in the path of Annularity for the fourth time in 10 years(odds for this happening randomly are about one in 500 million). the path then proceeds once again over Angkor Wat in Cambodia and divides Vietnam for the fourth time in 10 years. Kennedy gives a speech that night on the campaign trail in Rochester, New York. It is the only major city in America to witness the eclipse. Kennedy would be elected President the following year on Nov. 8th, the day after a transit of Mercury was visible across the Sun's face from the western hemisphere. Something that occurs about 13 times a century ..There are repeated cosmic associations in the 20th century that seem to bring associations of John F. Almost 18 years after the twin atomic bombs were dropped by the US on Japan, Saros Cycle 145 which appeared at the Atom Bomb eclipse 18 years before on 7-9-1945 --Total solar eclipse begins in the island of Hokaiddo, Japan-- bisects the new state of Alaska before cutting across Canada. It touches the USA only in Maine, with totality in Bangor, 97% totality at Bush family haven of Kennebunkport. 125 days later John F. Kennedy would be shot dead in Dallas Texas ( 35 % coverage) Boston saw 95 % coverage. Washington DC had 77% coverage. The beginnings of the USA 1960's, as far as solar eclipse associations go. The first Beatles record to be released in America happened two days later. It was "Please Please Me". The decade culturally will end 7 eclipse years later with the March 7, 1970 USA eclipse.
