The Saros Cycles helps define individual eclipses as characters. Their names are numbers.
These characters return every 18 years, 11 days and 8 hours. That is exactly one lunar year shy of 19 solar years.
A Saros Cycle is exactly 19 Draconic ( eclipse) years. It is also exactly 223 Lunar (synodic) months. It is also exactly 239 anomalistic months.
Important:
• Saros characters return every 19 eclipse years. That is 19 x 346.62 or 6585.78 days.
• A Saros is also, to within a few hours, exactly 223 Lunar (synodic) months.
(The math: A lunar month is 29.53 days. 29.53 x 223 equals 6585.19 days)
• A Saros in solar years is 18 years, 11 days and 8 hours, or 19 solar years minus one lunar year.
• A Saros is also “coincidentally” almost perfectly equal (to within a day) to 239 anomalistic months (27.55 days). The math: 239 x 27.55 equals 6585.45 days. The anomalistic month is the time between perigee to perigee of the moon. It's when the distance of moon to earth as it orbits returns to about the same. This gives Saros their character, so that they stay consistent (as partial, total or ring of fire) for lengthy periods of time. Over time, they slowly change.
This is not to be confused with the 19 year Solar Year Metonic "coincidence", which is exactly 235 lunar months and regularly aligns with the Draconic year as well.
The Saros "lives" for between 1200 and 1500 years. It begins its life as a partial eclipse, matures into a complete eclipse (Annular, Hybrid,or Total) and then fades again into a partial before eventually ceasing altogether. It begins its life at the polar regions, and ends it there as well.
Saros is a Greek word that essentially means "repetition". Knowledge of the cycle has been around since at least the Babylonians ( 700 BC), who determined it by observing the lunar Eclipses
The Saros Cycle has about 40 members at any one time, creating all the kinds of eclipses there are---lunar and solar, partial and complete.
For our purposes of establishing personality, we eliminate all consideration of lunar eclipses. They are not appropriate for our consideration, because they do not give any geographic centrality. Likewise for partial solar eclipses, which are blobular insignificant events. By removing both of these events ( i believe appropriately) from consideration, we are able to bring the cast of characters into a reasonable size for mental apprehension. 35% of solar eclipses are partial, either immature or dying Saros members. Lunar eclipses are almost half of all eclipses and involve a phenomenon ( the moon passing through the earth's shadow) which is completely different than the phenomenon we are concerned with--namely the moon passing directly in front of the sun as seen from earth.
By eliminating consideration of unnecessary manifestations, we are left with our current cosmic tribe.
There are 26 current complete ( or mature) personalities of the Saros Cycle Tribe. They interact with each other and the earth through other cycles, like the Hepton, Inex and Metonic, but their return remains consistent. Every 18 years 11 days and 8 hours, they will appear somewhere on earth. They maintain a certain pattern of shadow for centuries, though change slowly as they reach away from and towards the Poles.
The individual eclipses are called members by eclipse scientists, and they have numbers as well. For instance member 29 of Saros Cycle 136 is what I call The Abe Lincoln Assassination eclipse April 25, 1865,--ten days after his murder).
Member number 38 of Saros 136 appears over the Valley of the Kings in Egypt on August 2nd, 2027--the first line in the Mideast Tav.
Some of these personalities of the Saros Tribe seem insignificant. They are lodged in Antarctica or the northern latitudes or persistently seem to prefer the open ocean to any continental interaction.
Others are in full maturity during the modern era-- passing over the great empires of man, tying together history, cosmic time and eternal divine judgment in extraordinary shadow paths, all made possible by the indisputably astonishing co-ordination of sun/moon alignment and the arrangement of the solar, draconic and lunar years.
After a quick example of the history of a single Saros cycle, we will meet all 26 characters in our 125 year modern judgment timeline.
Saros: point at which three different soli-lunar calendars meet as they re-start their cycles:
242 draconic ( eclipse) months ( of 27.22 days) or 6585.78 days.
223 Lunar (synodic) months ( of 29,53 days) or 6585.19 days.
239 anomalistic months o( of 27,55 days) 6585.45 days.
the meeting point? 19 eclipse years.
This is 18 years 11 days and 8 hours.
This also is exactly equal to one luni-solar Metonic cycle ( 19 solar years) minus one lunar year.
How improbable is this alignment at such a short interval as 18 years? The next time these align precisely is after 127 Saros or nearly 2300 years.
The Saros Eclipse Cycle creates Saros Characters, or personalities. They are born. They mature. They fade. They die. They have characteristics specific only to them. You will meet them in this section.
They exist only because of one of the greatest synchronicities in all of visible existence, the co-ordination of three separate cosmic calendar alignments. Perhaps you aren’t supposed to know about this. Perhaps it’s reserved for the alchemists.
Three cosmic calendars align perfectly every 19 solar years in the Metonic Cycle.
Three cosmic calendars align perfectly every 19 eclipse years in the Saros Cycle.
And yes, the sun is the same size as the moon in the sky.
Each Saros Character is a repeating and slowly evolving curved geometrical pattern. Its existence is defined by the shadow path of a repeating solar eclipse, which returns to the earth at a regular interval and at shifting locations.
Who discovered Saros? Knowledge of the cycle has been around since at least the Babylonians (ca. 700 BC). They determined its existence by observing lunar eclipses repeating on 18-year and 11 day (19 eclipse year) intervals. Other ancient astronomers in both hemispheres were likely aware of the Saros repetition as it pertained to Lunar eclipses.
Determining the solar Saros cycle took much longer (until the early 18thcentury). Solar eclipses are hard to predict without a measured globe and understanding of earth’s rotation and revolution.
Who named it and why? The honor of naming the Saros fell to Edmund Halley, British astronomer and mathematician. He is famous for the comet named after him, the orbit of which he first calculated. Halley predicted and calculated the timing and path of an eclipse over England May 3 1715, the most accurate early prediction of a solar eclipse. It is a great peculiarity that this eclipse would occur in such a specific place as London (Saros 114 with 3 minutes and 33 seconds of totality) while Halley was at the peak of his profession. He was a friend of Sir Isaac Newton. It was the last complete solar eclipse over London in our history.
Halley named the Saros for a Babylonian word that ended up meaning 3600. Saros means “sweep” in Greek. It is said he was mistaken at its meaning.
Who numbered the Saros? The name of each Saros Character is a number. These numbers were given by the Dutch astronomer George Van Den Bergh in the 1950's in his book, Periodicity and Variations in Solar Eclipses (good luck trying to find a copy) and has been since adopted worldwide. The peculiar tale of Van Den Bergh (or what little we know) appears in the personalities section.
Because of the Saros Cycle's astonishing precision, eclipses have been mapped (probably quite accurately) backwards about 4,000 years and forwards at least a thousand years. They are given numbers as they are born.
Saros Cycle 0 was born May 23 2955 BC. It had 71 events. It began life as an almost imperceptible partial, matured into a robust ring of fire and faded again as a partial until dying June 29 1675 BC. It had “lived” about 1300 years and traveled the world, in its own fashion, bringing a strange dance of the sun and moon to the inhabitants of earth. Saros Cycle 1 showed up on June 4 2872 BC.
Saros receive their number from the order in which they are born. Saros Characters mature into complete eclipses at different rates, and have different “lifespans”. One Saros may have 70 events. Another may have 77, or 69. That is why, when we review the Characters in a minute, they do not appear in the earth’s sky in numeric order.
In recent history, Saros Characters bear numbers between 112 and 152. There are about 40 characters, 26 of whom are currently creating complete eclipses. You'll meet them in a minute.
The Facts Again:
Every Saros Cycle takes exactly 19 Draconic, or eclipse, years. That is 19 x 346.62(one eclipse year, or the time it takes for the sun, moon and earth return to the same ecliptic node. This amounts to 18 years, 11 days and 8 hours. At that time, the Sun, the Earth, and the Moon return to approximately the same relative geometry in relation to the orbits, tilts and nodes of the three celestial objects. One Saros period after a given eclipse, another similar eclipse occurs, displaced by 120 degrees in longitude or one third of the earth. This displacement is due to the remaining eight hours in the duration of the Saros cycle.
The eclipses shift sometimes in latitude as well, due to the tilt of the planet. It creates an individualized pattern, as seen in the maps in this section. Only serious mathematicians can accurately predict exactly where the eclipse will land. Thankfully, they have already done this.
Important:
• Saros characters return every 19 eclipse years ( or 235 draconic months of 27.22 days) .
In the Saros Synchronicity, three different calendars align, the lunar, the draconic and the anomalistic. Quite an arrangement. God arranged the Cycle to be both predictable and unique.
So again, a Saros Cycle is all four of these at once: 19 Draconic (eclipse) years, 223 Lunar (synodic) months, 239 Anomalistic months, and 19 solar years minus one lunar year.
From Wikipedia---Solar Saros 136, repeating every 18 years, 11 days, contains 71 events. The series started with partial solar eclipse on June 14, 1360, and reached a first annular eclipse on September 8, 1504. It was a hybrid event from November 22, 1612, through January 17, 1703, and total eclipses from January 27, 1721 through May 13, 2496. The series ends at member 71 as a partial eclipse on July 30, 2622, with the entire series lasting 1262 years. The longest eclipse occurred on June 20, 1955, with a maximum duration of totality at 7 minutes, 7.74 seconds. All eclipses in this series occurs at the Moon’s descending node.
Series members 29–43 occur between 1865 and 2117
Solar Saros 136 is for now producing the longest total solar eclipses. It produced the six longest total solar eclipses of the 20th century, three of them over seven minutes long.[3] It also produced the longest total eclipse of the 21st century at 6 min 38.86 sec, and overall will produce the century's three longest total eclipses. Saros 136 in turn surpassed the previous longest-eclipse series, Saros 133, with its member event on May 18th, 1901. Saros 136 will ultimately produce a total of 44 total eclipses. It produced the most central total eclipse between the years 1209 and 2718 and the greatest magnitude of any eclipse since the year 540 on July 11, 1991. All eclipses in this series occurs at the Moon's descending node. Solar Saros 136 contains 71 events in which of 15 will be partial eclipses, 6 will be annular, 6 will be hybrid and 44 will be total.
Here are the eclipses of 134 years of Saros 136, 8 different eclipses. you can see the pattern of the geographical shift where the shadows land over the course of the centuries...in this diagram, simply put, read from bottom right to left, return and repeat, and you follow the course of eclipse history for 134 years of one single Saros Personality.
Included in this diagram are some amazing eclipses ...the 1955 is the longest ever experienced on Earth in the last millennium . just as the war in Vietnam began. Above it is the extraordinary Wuhan Totality of 2009, to the left of it the Great Valley of the Kings that awaits us in 2027, go to the bottom of that row and you find Einsteins 1919 eclipse that proved his Theory of Relativity on John F. Kennedy's 2nd birthday.
Meaning? Do we believe in meaning at all?
The lifespan of Saros 136 begins as a partial eclipse 7 years after the end of the Black Death Plague in Eurasia. It first becomes a Ring of Fire in 1508 as the Spanish Conquest of the New World shifts into high gear. It becomes a Hybrid ( part Total-part Annular) on the Nov.22nd JFK Metonic on 1612 as the British Empire spreads across the world . Saros 136 switches to a Total in 1721.
You will notice that the eclipse lifespan achieves a maximum expression, like all forms of expression in reality. The duration of the eclipse and the width of the path are the obvious means of determining its maturity. Saros 136 achieves maximum duration in the 1955 Southeast Asia Eclipse and maximum width is still currently happening and concludes with the 2027 Valley of the Kings, which may be the maximum expression of the entire solar eclipse phenomenon occurring within a possible date of the 2000 year anniversary of the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Chart below has date of eclipse, number,
type ( P for Partial, A for Annular, H for hybrid and T for Total)
it has Gamma ( not explained here)
magnitude ( amount of coverage of sun by moon)
the co-ordinates of latitude and longitude of maximum eclipse,
width of the path of shadow on earth in kilometers
and finally, the duration of the eclipse in minutes and seconds.
The Saros 136 Cycle is scheduled to end 600 years from now, but I only include up to 2045, and i must confess that is being extremely optimistic.
The eclipse of August 2nd 2027 of Saros 136 over the Valley of the Kings is the most serious contender for the last eclipse in what we call modern civilization.

created by Andreas Mueller at solar-eclipse.info, a full view of the life of the great Saros 120, which brought many profound eclipses to the USA and Eurasia
Saros 126 shows the personalized signature, even over the course of a "lifetime" highlighting the diverse nature of solar eclipse personalities.
The word "Saros" is a Greek word for repetition. There are 26 different Saros cycles currently creating complete eclipses on Earth.
We will look at them in order of appearance using the 2015 Spring Equinox as a milestone...The Saros, of course, runs into history and into the future.
Look at these eclipses and you will see them Metonically linked in that various fashions with either the last eclipse in the cycle, the next eclipse, or sometimes two eclipses away. .the days of the eclipse will be either identical or sometimes one or two days apart, at 19 year intervals. These slight variations are to be expected and appreciated because of the time zone and orbital realities of earth. This extraordinary Metonic reality involves the impossibly brilliant co-ordination of cosmic timekeeping set forth by an omniscient Creator God.
Maps are original, using the last century of so of complete solar eclipses to demonstrate the geometric patterns of the individual eclipses.
Saros 120 (currently bringing total eclipses) brought the March 20, 2015 North Pole Spring Equinox Total Eclipse.
It reappears next in the amazing Bering Strait Eclipse of 3-30-2033, which links the USA and Russia.
Its eclipses in our 125 year study period are all over significant Northern Hemisphere Modern Empires.
USA-Mount Saint Helens/ Microsoft Eclipse--Feb. 26, 1979
The Great European eclipse of Feb 15, 1961
USA/Japan Wartime Eclipse Feb.4, 1943
Roaring Twenties USA to England Jan.24, 1925
Europe/China/ Russia Jan.14 1907
Jan 1 1889 USA Far West
Saros 130 (currently bringing total eclipses) last brought an eclipse on March 9, 2016 over Indonesia.
Its next eclipse is the tremendous Spring Equinox March 20, 2034 Mideastern Tav, on the 19th Metonic year to the day from Saros 120's North Pole Equinox.
Look at these dates and you will see them Metonically linked in that fashion with the last eclipse, Saros 120...the days will be either identical or one day apart, at 19 year intervals. This extraordinary reality is underappreciated and involves the co-ordination of cosmic timekeeping set forth by an omniscient Creator God.

This is one of the last great riddles of history and science. It is unexplored territory of meaning. It is the work of a mighty and unimaginably brilliant Creator.
We have 26 Saros with complete eclipses. Some of them are superstar personalities. Others only show up with a significant eclipse once or twice, and spend the rest of their days appearing over oceans.
These personalities interact with each other and with history.
Since 1912, we are considering about 175 complete eclipses.
Of these, more than 50 appear empirically insignificant, as they lurk around the north or south unihabited latitudes, or persist over open ocean.
So therefore, only 125 possible Judgment events in these last days of the empires.
Of these, maybe 70 absolutely demand consideration. That is not an impossible task.
Glory to God, who set the sun and moon.
